Laid Up

As you can see, I am not dead, and being well taken care of by my husband. He’s out with the girls right now, and I find it strange that every well-wisher and delivery person has waited until now to call or ring my doorbell. It takes me about half an hour to get down the stairs to the front door, and I’ve almost wiped out on the crutches more times than I care to admit.

I’m laying in bed right now with my left foot wrapped solidly in bandages, and the words “GO AWAY” still clearly visible in permanent ink on my right ankle. The nurses didn’t seem to find this as amusing as I did, but I still giggle every time I see it. Better safe than get the wrong foot operated on, I always say. The house is so quiet with the rest of my family gone, and snow is falling softly outside my bedroom window. Everything is peaceful. If my dang foot didn’t hurt so much, this would be an extremely restful afternoon.

Thanks to everyone for your healing thoughts, and thank you to all of those who made de-lurking week so much fun. I’ve met some great new people, and discovered a bunch of amazing new blogs that are going to keep me very busy while I’m stuck here in bed. I hope you lurkers learned to speak up more, because I love to hear from all of you!

  1. You had your surgery! We need to make you dinner! I hope you are doing well and enjoying some enforced down time. BTW, as a medical malpractice attorney, I can tell you that you did the right thing by marking up your other foot!

  2. That is hysterical. If only I could’ve done that for childbirth! “You have the wrong woman!” in permanent ink on pertinent parts.

    Don’t answer the doorbell, woman!

  4. For my foot surgery: on the surgery foot I wrote, “Pick me!” and on the other foot I wrote, “No, your other left.”

  5. Heh, heh, wise move–writing on your good foot.

Now lie down. Stay. (sounds like I’m talking to a dog, doesn’t it?)

  7. The only surgery I ever had was my c-section. Even though I was awake for it I still had thoughts about “what if they do the wrong thing???” so I made sure to chat up everyone in the room before they started. Just to make sure we all thought we were there for the same reason. Wouldn’t want any tubes tied unnecessarily!

  9. Welcome home!! I’m very glad you’re on the mend, and I hope Babs was okay about you going to hospital in the end (I loved: “Because I know everything.”) I also applaud you for writing on your foot: if I’m ever in the same situation, I’ll do that too.

Ignore your doorbell. When I came home with the new baby I put a note on my bell advising people not to ring it unless I was expecting them, and life was gloriously peaceful.

Hope you have a swift recovery. Take care.
