All Is Well
Warning: Guest Post!
Karli is out of surgery, and everything went fine. In the words of the surgeon, the operation was “perfect”. This is her husband, Ammon, guest posting while she rests.
We braved the icy roads and drove to the hospital early this morning, and since we were half an hour late, we only had to wait a few minutes (the people who showed up on time had to stay in the waiting room for half an hour). Once we were in a private room and Karli had changed into her “get out of jail free” clothes, we were trying to decide if this hospital was more like Scrubs or House. On Scrubs, patients are always dying; if you end up with House, you’ll live, after he treats you for Mercer, Legionnaires, and several other diseases before finding the real problem (he may even end up erasing all your memories unnecessarily). Unfortunately, we quickly found out this was Scrubs.

Our first visitor was the anesthesiologist — you know, the guy who could kill you by giving you 10mg too much of this gas or that elixir? With his jovial attitude and almost-funny jokes it was unclear if he was dispensing the drugs or… Anyway, when the nurse handed him Karli’s chart and he asked about what one of the form fields meant, it was a little unnerving. I was hoping that they had just recently changed the standard chart form and he hadn’t seen one before…
Without fail, each of the nurses acted like they were a little pissed that there were actual patients in their hospital — it reminded us of Carla and Laverne from Scrubs. Apparently, when Karli went in they just put the IV in and she didn’t remember anything until she woke up in the recovery room. In fact, the surgeon visited her twice in the recovery room and she didn’t remember it. I also brought her flowers, chocolate, chick flicks, and diamonds while she was in the recovery room and she doesn’t remember it.
Luckily, we already knew Karli’s surgeon and he is both professional and competent. He told us that the damage to her ankle wasn’t as bad as they feared, so reconnecting her tendon went smoothly. Since the damage wasn’t too severe and she’s young and healthy (and she’s beautiful but he didn’t mention that) he thinks she’ll heal quickly. Meanwhile, I was stuck in the waiting room watching the janitor play pranks on the nurses with his imaginary monkey.
Now, Karli is in bed, sleeping, then watching TV, then eating ice cream. She doesn’t have much pain, and so far the kids are easy to take care of. Thanks everyone for all your well wishes and support!

At least they didnt try to treat her for Lupus and vasculitis… sad, that she got the Scrubs people! House might have made her cry, but I bet it woulda been a lot less nerve-wracking… and besides, Chase and Cameron would’ve been really nice to her before putting her out.
Awesome post!

And here I was hoping for a Grey’s Anatomy kind of hospital visit for you… but it sounds like you took care of the McDreamy part, Ammon.
Welcome Home, friend! Rest well!

I once met a wonderful singer named Ammon in Michigan. Could you be…..? Thankyou for doing a charming post. And what a wonderful way to distract yourself in the hospital!
Get well soon Karli.

I don’t think I’m going to be able to stop myself from playing the “Which Show are We On” game when The Biscuit goes in for surgery in February. That was a good distraction!

I must be really out of it, because I don’t see flowers, chocolate, chick flicks, or diamonds ANYWHERE. Maybe I lost my sight during the surgery? Maybe my husband just thinks he’s really really funny?

I am devoted to both House and Scrubs, but am glad Karli’s experience was more of the Scrubs variety. Also, on House, the patient usually has a seizure at some point. And, they have to go snoop around your house (but hopefully not) to find out what’s making you sick!
