gorging on color

I know that you think that my extended absence of six days meant that I had left you for a younger internet with bigger boobs and fake nails, but it is not so! I will never turn you in for a younger internet, internet! I have been busy! I have been painting! I was tired of all the white white white walls. By an amazing stroke of genius (read: you don’t have to get me an anniversary present, honey!) I was able to convince my paint-hating, white wall-loving husband to tackle this project with me. And now we are sort-of done and I feel like telling you all about it.

Behold! The “before” kitchen:

White! Everything blindingly white!

And now the after photo, the beautiful, beautiful after:

We also painted the adjoining family room:

Please excuse the lack of furniture. We don’t actually have any for this room. Even though we’ve lived here for 2 1/2 years. It’s kind of hard to see how awesome these colors actually are in those photos, so here’s another one of where they meet in the kitchen:

Is it not beautiful? I am in love. And perhaps a tad woozy from the fumes.

  1. Nice combo! Looks better on the walls than on your hair!

  3. That looks beautiful! You have rounded corners too? Is that what I see? How did you manage to make a straight line? Btw, if you have more rooms to paint, I have two full cans of paint that you can have… I decided not to use them before we move.

  9. The colors looks great. And like someone said earlier, it’s amazing what a coat of paint will do.
I totally dig the blue bottles you have on the top of the cabinets in the kitchen - very cool.

  10. Absolutely gorgeous!!!

You can make those blue Ball jars glow by putting a rope light of white lights behind it. Very pretty. LOVE the growing collection.

  11. You know how I feel about colour. And you know how I feel about how you use it in your home and what you create with it. (Serenity woman.) But I have to say it - I LOVE IT! And the jars…..

  12. oooohhhh! I love it!! I’ve been fighting the painting battle with Brian for a while. Any tips? I’d love a red kitchen, but really I’d settle for anything that’s not white/bone/light beige/mother-of-pearl.

  15. I’m so in love with the color you chose! What is the name of that brown? Or the mixture code thing? I so want to copy it! L-O-V-E it! And the blue and brown combo compliments each other so beautifully! 2 of my favorite house colors!

  21. I love the way that the dark-ish mocha-ish color looks - it makes the kitchen look so warm and homey. and of course I already love the dusty blue-green.

  22. I’m not a fan of white walls either. I love those two colors. I would never know how to pick out combo colors like those two colors though. I need help from one of those HGTV designers, especially Candice from “Devine Design”!
