meme-tastic!
I have been tagged by two wonderful bloggers for two different and very fun memes. So here we go:
The Book Meme
One book that changed my life:
Without a doubt that would be “Raising an Emotionally Intelligent Child” by John Gottman, Phd. I call it my parenting Bible. I love this book so much, because he speaks about learning how to use all aspects of parenting, the great times and the not so great times, to teach your children how to be “emotionally intelligent.” I think emotional intelligence is so important, and giving that gift to my children will not only help our relationship to be strong, but it will also give them the inner strength, integrity, and courage to be successful in all that they do.
One book I have read more than once:
“The Little Prince” is my favorite book of all time, and one that I have read again and again. The prose is so elegant and innocent, and the story is achingly beautiful. I can’t wait until my kids are old enough for me to read it to them.
One book I would want on a desert island:
Oh man. It would have to be something long and complicated, to give me something to do while I’m there… Probably “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare” or something like that.
One book that made me laugh:
Probably “Gods in Alabama” by Joshilyn Jackson. This book had such a humorously personal narrator whose outlook on life was always interesting.
One book that made me cry:
“Me and Emma” was heartbreaking at all turns, but so wonderfully told and what a crazy ending!
One book I wish had never been written:
All of those parenting books that told me the right way to do things. I couldn’t stand the stress of picking one of the “right” ways- whichever one I picked, all the rest told me I was making a bad choice! I love books (like the one in the first question) that help me learn to read my child and figure out what works for us. All those preachy, know-it-all type books just made me feel like a failure as a parent.
One book I am currently reading:
I just finished the two books pictured on my sidebar, and am about to start “My Name is Asher Lev” which was recommended by a very dear friend.
One book I have been meaning to read:
I really want to read some of the recent books about motherhood and identity, like “Perfect Madness” and “Mother Shock.” It’s a topic I am ever so slightly invested in…
