simple pleasures
Here are some things I love:
The smell of the first drops of rain on hot concrete.
Feeling my hair spread out behind me when I lay back in the water.
The shocking and delightful moment when I touch a lemon to my tongue.
Snuggling deep inside a thick blanket on a winter evening, reading by the light of a soft lamp.
The charged, thick stillness of the air just before a thunderstorm.
The hot and yeasty smell of fresh bread baking.
The warm snuffle of a baby against my breast.
The cheerful lilt of an Irish accent.
Waking up early in summertime, and stepping outside to find it’s already warm.
The crunch of sugar between my teeth after biting into a Christmas cookie.
The squelch of fresh spring mud between my toes.
The crackle of a record player.
Watching my daughters splash with sheer joy along a sidewalk full of puddles.
What about you?

The first sip of coffee in the morning.
Seeing the first buds of springtime.
The sound of my children’s laughter.

Jumping into puddles in the pouring rain
Hot Peppermint Coffee in a big overstuffed chair
Laying down in a field of wildflowers and gazing at stars

Hearing the birds sing when I first wake up.
Hearing The King’s truck in the driveway.
Snuggling with the Duchess and waking up to her soft kisses.
That first sip of coffee in the morning.
Just getting into a hot bath with lots of bubbles.
The smell of the mountains after being away from them all winter.
Feeling The King pull me closer in his sleep.
I could go on and on…..

Driving with the windows open.
Opening and smelling a fresh new book for the first time.
I love yours.

Reading what everyone else loves…
…listening to my children laugh…
…watching them play with each other…
…coffee…
…four hours of solid, uninterrupted sleep…
…hot fudge sundaes…
…the look on my daughter’s face when she does something for the first time, and nails it…
…the last Self Portrait Tuesday installment you did that showcased your hair…
…the book “Fall On Your Knees” by Ann-Marie MacDonald…
…being a mommy.

*Lingering scent of baby shampoo in the freshly washed hair of my child.
*Stepping off the plane in Hawaii and getting the first tropical whiff of plumeria flowers.
*Getting into my own bed for the first time after being away on a trip.
*Spider webs drooping with thousands of tiny pearls of dew on a foggy October morning.
*Getting a new state quarter in my change from an unnecessary fast food restaurant purchase.
*Waking in an extra quiet, extra bright room on a winter morning and peeking out my bathroom window to find out the snow snuck in while I was sleeping.
*Walking to the car at night after an outside play or concert in summer when it is still 70 degrees out.
*When I am driving and one of my favorite songs of all time comes on the radio. This experience is made even better when: (a) I have forgotten to bring along a favorite cd once again and (b) I am driving alone so I can turn it up and sing along all wild and crazy like.
*Eating a small hot fudge sundae at Chinook’s. Even better: getting a large one by mistake.
*Meeting someone for the first time and realizing right away that I just may be gaining a great new friend.

Wonderful list! I adore the smell and feel of clean sheets that have dried outside in the sun, and the sound of the waves of the ocean.

These are awesome! I don’t have time to do it right now, but you’ve inspired me to sit and come up with a list that acknowledges the simple abundance in my life.

I love rubbing my lips against my baby’s soft, fuzzy hair. I love watching my children sleep. I love the moments before a thunderstorm too. I love laughter. I love a cool pillow on a hot night and clean sheets. I love the feel of my children’s hands on my skin. I love long hugs from my partner. I love having a gin and tonic in the back yard on a hot summer night. I love being surrounded by my friends and family.

Those are great! I love the first burst of sunlight coming through the blinds in the morning; the smell of coffee in the morning; the sound of “Hi Mama!” in the morning; cuddling under a blanket by a fire when it’s cold outside; everything about Christmas; the smell of my kids fresh from a bath; a freshly vacuumed house; a clean sink; an empty laundry room; hugs and kisses from any member of my family; being told “I love you”; the sounds of crickets in the summer; the smell of freshly mowed grass in the summer; the delight from my kids right after it’s snowed, and on and on and on!

I love… this post, by mom on a wire, and the smell of Bean’s head after I’ve just washed her hair with baby shampoo.

I know this entry is over a year old, but I felt like taking advantage of the opportunity to reply.
-Coincidences: like meeting someone named Jackson then within hours seeing “Jackson blvd” on my way home.
-Natural light early in the morning. I hate using my lighting fixtures at home. If I really need light, I like to open curtains. And in the morning, I like the soft bits of sunlight that make their way between the blinds.
-Little kids wearing their wellington boots on dry sunny days.
-Kids with high-pitched happy screams. They’re just so sincere.
